You pile up associations the way you pile up bricks. Memory itself is a form of architecture

My hands move. My feet move. I don’t know how to move them, though. It’s like everything is moving all these parts. It’s funny. It’s like I’m in there, somewhere inside myself, and the body I’m in keeps on changing, more and more and more and more, in ways I don’t even know. I wish I didn’t care. But I do care.

  1. I am Gabrielle Gordeau, an autistic/neuroqueer visual artist based in Amsterdam with a background in cultural studies and mural art. My practice is in tran

sition from applied practice to autonomous work, from large-scale 2D murals to multisensory installations that involve clay, research, experience, consciousness, text, and touch, deliberately decentering the visual and the rational.

I work with tactile, biomorphic forms and kinetic elements to explore sensory memory, transformation, and the porous boundaries between bodies, minds, objects, and environments. My overarching themes are what i call ‘pudding’ and exploration. My process is thorough, slow, embodied, and attentive to the unseen. Valuing iterations, intuition, interiority, freewriting, wonder, and situated (inter)subjectivity over fixed meaning. I approach art-making as i approach life: an open system - hyperconnected, living, sometimes fragmented, sometimes spherical, overwhelming but exciting, and deeply relational - inviting audiences to inhabit difference rather than resolve it. I see formalism in any human expression as both a tool for clarity and a weapon of normativity, as i observe how we negotiate room for actual life within it.

I am interested in creating spaces where many sensory, emotional, and interior experiences and perspectives get to coexist. Places that resist the pressure for central coherence and instead celebrate fluidity, decentralisation, contradiction, depth, complexity, multiplicity, layers webs and the power that lies in allowing all of those to connect and decompose, without forcing certain hierarchies. Having said that: scroll to the bottom of the page to find various ways I am immersed in all kinds of structures (my gmail, kvk, vat, bank information)

Gabrielle Gordeau is a visual artist based in Amsterdam. She works in ceramics, installation, and writing, among other forms. Her practice celebrates multiplicity and positionality. Bodies, ideas, objects may seem singular but never fixed; they flow, melt, and re-form through and with each other. this is no space for a hero’s journey or a linear narrative - everything relates to everything, the space it happens in is what holds things together (not the order of ‘normalcy’). Confusion and chaos mean room for creativity: the physical consists of portals, warpholes, spaces open to be experienced and alright with disorder. Curious beings move through them, sometimes falling apart, sometimes working together, always in a spiral of part and whole without an endpoint.
